Review of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao University Student Drama Festival

March 11, 2025 Greater Bay Area Drama Festival For College Students

After four days of drama performances, students from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen, Southern University of Science and Technology, and University of Macau embarked on a drama journey with freedom and tenderness through stage performances and workshop experiences at CUHK-Shenzhen.

01

Painting a Shared Circle of Drama

Between fragmentation and completeness, drama serves as the bridge.

Under the same theme, each of the four universities showed ingenuity in constructing inclusive circles.

Within these circles, love and freedom harmoniously intertwine.

Beyond their bounds, dreams diverge, each chasing its own spring breeze.

02

Preserving the Romanticism of Art in the Midst of the Mundane

Roload, from Phantom Club of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen encourages deep reflection on art and its interaction with the mundane. Through their vision, they imagined a realm free from constraints, where societal shackles fade into oblivion.

Trapped, by the Monsoon Theater of Southern University of Science and Technology breathes life into the play, unraveling the profound weight of love. Within its narrative, love and being loved find eternal harmony and cast blessings upon life’s passionate journeys.

In The Missing Circle by CUHKJP, The Chinese Univerisity of Hong Kong, meteors whispered dreams while celestial bodies danced. Two solitary souls embark on a grand dream, portraying the perplexity and struggles of youth.

Drama Society, UMSU, of the University of Macau, in their production Flying to the Moon unveiled a hero’s journey. Once a savior, now a folk tale, it servers as a reminder that even after crossing countless rivers, one can return to the essence.

As the stage lights ebb and flow, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed judges - CHAN Kam Kuen Anthony, WANG Weibin and ZHOU Ke, for broadening our realm of appreciation for the poetic nuances of drama.

03

We All Have the “Seeds” and “Sprouts” of Drama

Within a small world, we accommodated theme markets and workshops, fostering heartfelt reunions among friends who share a love for drama. With every word, the art of drama gradually blossoms.

04

The Circle Continues

The space within the circle is already defined, while outside lies a new wilderness.

The whimsical journey of drama persists, eagerly anticipating its next chapter.
