【Creative Course of the Art Courses Programme】Johnsy、Cyy: velvet craft
With a few velvet strips,
and a heart immersed in art,
using a pair of scissors to capture the silhouette of art,
and a pair of deft hands to create a flower,
this is the intangible cultural heritage velvet craft.
In order to enrich the life of faculties and students at home during the epidemic prevention and control period, UAC Art Courses programme specially planned a velvet craft activity with the theme of intangible cultural heritage. We aimed at letting everyone feel the healing of art online, and make a hand-made artwork by themselves.
【Velvet 】

Velvet, which is homophonic to nobleness and wealth in Chinese, is regarded as a lucky symbol in China. In the Tang Dynasty, velvet was used as royal tributes. In the late Ming and early Qing Dynasty, velvet occurred in ordinary people’s life and were worn at the Spring Festival, Dragon Boat Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival and weddings. The velvet craftsmanship is listed as an intangible cultural heritage.

On March 18th, Qin Liying and Chen Yuyan from Ainuan Culture brought us the Creative Course of UAC Art Courses Programme -- the Velvet Craft.
In the course, Qin Liying and Chen Yuyan shared the long history and production process of velvet craft with us, and introduced the colourful Chinese culture via a small velvet flower.
【Wonderful Moments】

【Students' Artworks】

I have always been making velvet flowers alone, and few people around have heard of this craft. This activity can let more people know velvet craft. It is great! I also hope there will be more activities about intangible cultural heritage craft in the future! I will definitely sign up.

I want to try knitting (making bracelets for example) or creating perfume!

I hope to (attend a creative course) learn how to make a kite!
