Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra
Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra (SZSO) was founded in 1982. After more than 40 years of explorations and efforts, SZSO has since distinguished itself as having a high level of excellence and a rising international profile in China and aiming to become one of Asia's leading orchestra with international influence.
National first-level performer and violinist Bing Nie is the current chairman of the orchestra artistic committee. and its Music Director is the distinguished conductor Mr. LIN Daye. Mr. YU Long serves as Artistic Advisor, Mr. Christian EHWALD as Honorary Conductor, Mr. TAN Dun as Principal Guest Conductor.
The Orchestra has toured regularly around China since 1987. On the international stage, it has toured in four continents and has received international acclaims. In 1997, it was invited to Europe and was the first orchestra from China to perform at the Berlin Philharmonie Hall and Smetana Concert Hall in the Czech Republic. In 2007, it was also the first orchestra from Asia to perform at the Cathedral of Saint-Louis des Invalides in Paris. In 2013, the Orchestra was invited by UNESCO to perform the Confucian Symphony “Ode to Humanity” at the UNESCO Headquarters City Hall in Paris.
In 2020, the Orchestra signed a Certificate of Collaboration with The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen.
Conductor
Cho Ki Jacky WONG
Cho Ki Jacky WONG, a pianist and conductor, is the first musician in Asia and Australia to conduct while playing a full set of Beethoven Piano Concertos. He is currently the Principal Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Youth Orchestra affiliated to the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the Principal Guest Conductor of the Antonio Fragoso Symphony Orchestra of Portugal, Visiting Professor of the Cleveland Conservatory of Music in the United States, Artist Advisory and the Judge of the Guimaraes International Violin Competition in Portugal, Consultant of the Hong Kong International Music Festival and the Judge of Hong Kong Pianist Competition. In 2019, he was commissioned by the Ministry of Culture to serve as the Assistant Conductor of Mr. LI Xincao in the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Macao's handover, and received unanimous praises.
Jacky WONG graduated from the Sydney Conservatory of Music in Australia, followed the tutelage of master conductor Pallow, and obtained a master's degree in Conducting and Piano Performance. He also studied in the master class taught by Professor Keesler in the University of Michigan Conducting Department and was guided by famous conductors LI Xincao and YIP Wing Sie. He served as the Chief Conductor of the Guangxi Symphony Orchestra, the Assistant Conductor of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Music Director of the Sydney Eastern Chamber Orchestra and the Chorus, and the Guest Conductor for the Australian Hullal Philharmonic and the Beecroft Orchestra. He has worked with several orchestras including Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Pearl River Symphony Orchestra, Kunming Nie Er Symphony Orchestra, and Macau Orchestra, etc. In 2016, he was invited by the Venice Symphony Orchestra of the United States as an external artist of the International Conducting Academy. In the same year, he was also invited to be a guest artist at the North Dakota State University.

“The sunset is especially mild while the world is filled with romance.” 「Sunset Concert」 is a new series of activities presented by UAC, combining the campus culture, natural environment, and melodious music together. We will invite musicians and small orchestras to the campus, to bring you a campus concert of multiple feelings and experience during sunset.
