[Meeting Intellectuals in the Spring Hills] Review|Join Jocelyn Chan on an audio therapy journey

April 13, 2023 Meeting Intellectuals in the Spring Hills

Have you heard of art healing?

Art healing aims to use various art forms such as music, dance, and painting for psychological treatment, helping people to express emotions, relieve stress, and improve their mental well-being.

University Art Centre will plan a series of activities related to art healing on campus starting from this year.

On April 13th, the guest of the 30th Lecture of Meeting Intellectuals in the Spring Hills Lecture Series—Jocelyn Chan, a post-90s Chinese songwriter-singer, created a space for art healing and started a special journey of healing through audio.

【Review of the Lecture】

What is sound healing? Before starting the experience, Jocelyn first introduced the process of sound healing. Based on the recent condition and emotions of the visitor, as well as their purposes, the therapist will design a personalized audio healing programme to create a suitable resonance between the visitors’ feelings and their body vibrations.

"Sound of Silence", although it sounds contradictory, the power of sound is actually very strong, strong enough to make oneself calm down and listen to one's inner voice. Jocelyn believes that "the concept of sound healing is actually quite similar to that of traditional Chinese medicine. Both aim to solve the problems that people encounter in their mental and physical states."

During the lecture, Jocelyn shared three self-healing tips with everyone:

1. Patting one's chest slowly for 20 times to create a steady rhythm for oneself.

2. Breathing slowly in and out in groups of eight beats.

3. Using the sounds of the five vowels "a, e, i, o, u" to relieve tension and anxiety.

At the end, Jocelyn customized an exclusive sound healing journey for the students present, leading everyone to experience the charm of music healing the soul.

【Speaker】

Jocelyn Chan

Post-90s Chinese songwriter-singer, actor, and music therapist.

In 2021, she was selected as one of the “40 promising young people Under 40 years old” by Prestige HK fashion magazine. Since her debut, Jocelyn has been committed to “speaking for love and healing through audio”. She is the first singer to incorporate sound healing into Cantonese songs, releasing a series of singles such as “Sound of  Life”, “Sound of  Silence”, “Thank You, My Fear”, and “The Frequency for Letting Go”. “Sound of  Silence” and “Thank You, My Fear” both achieved the top rank on the Hong Kong Radio Chinese Song Chart. In addition, she founded her own sound healing studio, “Atlantis Sound Healing”.

Apart from her success in the music industry, Jocelyn has also made a name for herself in other fields. She has participated in or starred in musicals such as “Love in Starlight”, TVB dramas such as “Operation Overtime 2022”, and English dramas such as “Cross My Mind”. She has also created and performed OST songs for many popular movies and TV dramas such as “Walk with Anthony”, “I Will Love the Whole World for You”, and “Return the World to You”.

【Meeting Intellectuals in the Spring Hills】

"Meeting Intellectuals in the Spring Hills" is one of the University's lecture series where the University will invite social elites in such fields as culture and arts to share with our students in form of salon or lecture to promote a discussion of thought-provoking issues or soul-searching experiences. During the lectures, everyone will have a chance to listen and respond on their world views, their aspirations, and intellectual taste in life.
