[Meeting Intellectuals in the Spring Hills] Review|Emotion management
On January 15th, at the 32nd Lecture of "Meeting Intellectuals in the Spring Hills Lecture Series", we had the honor of inviting famous host and programme producer Wang Xiaoya, to share her tips on emotion management.
【Review of the Lecture】
Ms. Wang Xiaoya first emphasized the powerful impact of personal emotions, and everyone should learn to build their own energy field and establish a mindful positive cycle. At the same time, as information becomes overwhelming, developing stable self-emotions is an important foundation for making accurate judgments about the objective world. If students have a correct understanding of empathy, compassion, and transpositional consideration, they will experience more effective growth while maintaining humility.
What are the differences in communication brought about by thinking and judgment based on rationality versus sensibility? Ms. Wang Xiaoya explained that intuitive thinking is characterized by experience, quickness, stubbornness, and confidence, while rational thinking is manifested through scientific, logical, diligent, and introspective approaches. Not only is there a contrast between intuition and rationality, but there is also an essential distinction between empathy and compassion. In the eyes of Ms. Wang Xiaoya, compassion is more about subjective emotional alignment, while empathy is based on facts and objective cognition, involving mature and stable transpositional consideration.
Ms. Wang Xiaoya then explained the energy levels of emotions to everyone. Each emotion has a certain value, and it is essential to train one's self-awareness to discern and manage these values within emotions. Indifference, guilt, anger, arrogance, courage, tranquility, serenity, and so on, all have different positive or negative values. These various emotions interact and transform into different levels of energy. Taking “tranquility” as the boundary, climbing upwards leads to the ideal state from “serenity” to “acceptance”, while on the other side, it descends from “courage” to “shame”, reflecting the true nature of the world. Each emotion holds a unique significance in Ms. Wang Xiaoya's presentation. For instance, “courage” is externally interpreted as “I want to do it” and represents the power that arises from a combination of impulsiveness and confidence. Regardless of the type of emotion, she encouraged those students who are struggling internally, reminding them that everything can be turned around, and it is crucial to learn to overcome obstacles with determination.
