The Chorus of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen
The Chorus of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was formerly the Student Chorus (established in October 2014) and the Staff Chorus (established in August 2015). Since its foundation, adhering to the concept of innovation and diversification, the Chorus has been successful in performing a wide range of classical and popular songs in both Chinese and foreign languages, including The Seal Lullaby, Baba Yetu, Just One Time, Прекрасное Далеко, and Time to Say Goodbye. It has also performed in grand events, including the Annual Concert of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen from 2015 to 2019 at Poly Theatre and Shenzhen Concert Hall, the 2017 CUHK(SZ) Student Chorus Concert at Longgang Cultural Center, the 2019 Shenzhen Universities’ Student Chorus Concert “Ode to Motherland” at Shenzhen Grand Theatre and Longgang Water Music Concert from 2018 to 2019 at Shenzhen Universiade Centre. In the recent one year, the Chorus tried A Capella group-singing performance and adapted several popular songs, including Missing is a Kind of Disease, Of Unwillingness, Hallelujah, Won’t Cry and The Story of Us. During the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic, the Chorus produced an original song Heroes in Harm’s Way as a salute to the frontline workers. Six years since establishment, it has become an influential chorus that masters various music styles.
The Orchestra of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen
The Orchestra of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was established in 2015, composing of undergraduates who were from different schools and majors, who got together because of their passion for classical music.
The Orchestra has been dedicated to the development of classical music on campus, and the promotion of both classical and modern music. It participated in the Annual Concert of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen at Poly Theatre in 2015 and at Shenzhen Concert Hall in 2016, 2017 and 2019, the 2019 Longgang Water Music Concert at Shenzhen Universiade Centre and the 2017 CUHK(SZ) Student Chorus concert at Longgang Cultural Center, performing excellent music pieces independently or collaborating with the Chorus, such as Peer Gynt Suite No. 1, Op.46, The Mongolians, Let it Go, Baba Yetu, and I Like it. As a University art group, the Orchestra is planning to perform more pure orchestral music and invite well-known conductors for exchange of ideas in the future.
The Chinese Orchestra of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen
The Chinese Orchestra of The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen was established in August 2018. Its members play a number of musical instruments such as Zheng, Pipa, Bamboo Flute, and ethnic percussions. In practice, the Chinese Orchestra aims to demonstrate and explore the charm of Chinese music, as well as popularize specialized knowledge. Meanwhile, it will rehearse and perform outstanding Chinese music pieces to help those interested in Chinese music improve their skills and broaden their horizon, making the culture of Chinese music come to fruition on campus.
